  • Reason №1 – To get acquainted with the «spare» capital of the BSSR.

Mogilev is a city with a rich history. During the First World War, until March 1917, it was the military capital of the Russian Empire, the third most important center after St. Petersburg and Moscow, it was here that the residence of Emperor Nicholas II was located. And in 1939 it was planned to move the capital of the BSSR here and even the House of Soviets had been built by analogy with the Minsk House of Government. Despite the fact that the city was severely destroyed and most of the places of interest were ruined, a rather large number of unique objects remained in Mogilev: this is the highest Town Hall in Belarus, the longest pedestrian street in Belarus (1.5 km), the Mogilev men's gymnasium, where the first president of the Senate of the Hawaiian Islands Nikolai Sudzilovsky and the explorer of the North Otto Schmidt studied; a 17th-century mansion where the Emperor of Austria-Hungary Joseph II stayed in 1780 and signed the Russian-Austrian Treaty with Catherine II; St. Nicholas Monastery of the 17th century, where Emperor Nicholas II came to a prayer service; The Maslennikov Museum - a former peasant-land bank, where for the last time the main Orthodox relic of Belarus – the cross of Euphrosyne Polotskaya has been seen; The drama theater, and, of course, one of the symbols of the city – the monument to the Astrologer and the sundial on the Square of Stars. And this is not a complete list of interesting and fascinating places of the city.

  • Reason №2 – To visit the field of Konstantin Simonov – Bujnichi field.

The memorial complex «Bujnichi field» immortalizes the great memory of heros of the World War II, which for 23 days in July 1941 defended the city from Nazi invaders and managed to restrain Army Group Center, going to Moscow. Events from the Bujnichi field were reflected in the novel «Alive and Dead» by journalist Konstantin Simonov, who was sent there by the newspaper. At the end of the war, the writer repeatedly returned here, and later bequeathed to dispel his ashes over the Bujnichi field.

  • Reason №3 – To see the impregnable fortress of the times of Napoleon in Bobruisk.

The Bobruisk fortress was one of the most powerful and impregnable in all Europe in the XIX century. During the war of 1812, it was able to withstand a two-month siege of Napoleonic guns and stop the rapid advance of enemy troops in Moscow. And after the war the reconstructed fortress was used as a penal servitude for political prisoners, the first prisoners of which were the Decembrists. To date, several forts, gates and fragments of ramparts have been preserved from the fortifications of the Bobruisk fortress.
