Monument

Monument is a type of structure either explicitly created to commemorate people, events, objects, animals, as well as literary and movie characters, etc. There are the following types of monuments - a group of sculptures, statue, bust, plate with relief or inscription, triumphal arch, column, obelisk. Technical devices often such as locomotives, cars, tanks, etc. are installed as monuments.

Monuments have been created for thousands of years, and they are often the most durable and famous symbols of ancient civilizations. Prehistoric tumuli, dolmens, and similar structures have been created in a large number of prehistoric cultures across the world, and the many forms of monumental tombs of the more wealthy and powerful members of society are often the source of information about those cultures. The first fully-fledged monumets appeared in ancient Rome (emperors' statues, memorial arches and columns).
On the territory of Belarus after the Second World War appeared a great number of monuments and memorials to commemorate the fallen soldiers, guerrillas and the heroes of the Soviet Union.
