We invite you to embark on a unique journey through Polotsk, one of the oldest cities in Belarus, located on the banks of the Western Dvina River. Founded in the 9th century, it became the first capital of the Belarusian state and the center of Orthodoxy in Eastern Europe.

As you follow the tour route, you'll discover amazing sights—from the cobbled streets of the Upper Castle, where the atmosphere of majestic medieval times reigns, to the narrow streets of the city center, adorned with the graceful facades of old houses preserving the appearance of bygone eras. The famous St. Sophia Cathedral is also located here, testifying to Polotsk's importance in the formation of Orthodox culture in Eastern Europe. Visitors to this ancient city can see monuments to the great enlighteners Simeon of Polotsk and Francysk Skaryna, admire the river view from the embankment, and touch the mysterious symbol of the letter "Ў."

    From what party you wouldn't drive up to the city – you will see a majestic and graceful baroque silhouette of the Polotsk Sofia. Have built the most ancient Christian shrine and the first stone temple in Belarus, one of the earliest in Ancient Russia 10 centuries ago - the copy of the Byzantine monastery. Now, from initial shape, only the crypt, three apses, a part of internal columns and finishing of the base have remained. Today St. Sophia Cathedral - the first representative of art who has incorporated lines peculiar to the Polotsk earth. Church services are stopped even here at the beginning of the 20th century: now it is the unique museum and one of the best concert halls of Europe where you will hear fine body or chamber music.

    The Upper Castle in Polotsk is an ancient fortress founded in the 10th century, which for a long time was the center of the Polotsk Principality. Located on the high bank of the Western Dvina River, it served as an administrative and defensive structure. Here were princely chambers, temples, and fortress walls that protected the city. Today, archaeological monuments have been preserved on the site of the Upper Castle, including the ruins of old fortifications. Tourists can see the famous St. Sophia Cathedral and the Boris Stone, which are linked to the history of ancient Polotsk.

    One of the main attractions in Polotsk is the monument to Francysk Skaryna. This outstanding figure played a crucial role in the development of Belarusian culture and science. The exact date of his birth is unknown, but historians believe he was born in the late 15th century into a merchant family in Polotsk. He received his early education at a monastery school before continuing his studies at the University of Krakow, where he obtained a bachelor's degree and later a doctorate. Skaryna also studied medicine and earned a doctorate in medical sciences from the University of Padua in Italy.

    The Polotsk earth long since is famous for the history, social and religious life.
