26 February 2024 - 31 December 2025

Forest Space is a web platform that interactively talks about the mythology of Europe’s oldest forest - Belovezhskaya Pushcha , through a visual map with 360-video and an audio story with animation about mythological creatures that previously lived in these places.

Bialowieza Forest - a historical and geographical object that lies on the territory of Poland and Belarus. The roots of trees stretch for thousands of kilometers, creating a vast ecosystem, a single organism. On its territory there are numerous museums, recreation areas, there are also nurseries that preserve the flora and fauna of the forest. In general, a centuries-old history is concentrated within its borders.

Forest Space Project Goals :

  • Popularization of culture and mythology through drawing attention to the Bialowieza Forest - the oldest forest in Europe.
  • Track landscape changes over time on unique archived photos.
  • The desire to talk about the importance of Belovezhskaya Pushcha and the protection of its nature.
  • Preserving the forest is the main mission!

The project allows you to immerse yourself online through the interactive map of Belovezhskaya Pushcha in the myths and legends of the protected forest. Particular emphasis is placed on myths and legends, which were an integral part of the life of our ancestors. Follow the interactive Myths Map and you will learn about such mystical inhabitants of the relict forest as:

  • Famously one-eyed;
  • Puschevik is the elder brother of Leshy;
  • Vegetandra and Yandaruma;
  • Living Hives;
  • Mermaids;
  • Goblin - the guardian spirit of the forest;
  • Apiary spirit (Damn);
  • Baba Yaga;
  • Water;
  • Putty.

The site allows you to track statistics , which was prepared on the basis of scientific sources of the national park in the Republic of Belarus. You can find data on the average age of trees, the dynamics of the forest area, information on deforestation and other interesting data.

For fans of unusual tests, the Forest Space project has prepared questions by answering which you can find out "What creature are you from myths?".

Forest Space was prepared as part of the MATCH project, awarded in the international program Culture for Local Development, implemented by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw and the European Solidarity Center in Gdansk.
