News : Maslenitsa 2021 at the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life in Strochitsy

The Museum of Folk Architecture and Life invites to celebrate one of the happiest holidays of the national calendar - Maslenitsa on March 13th and 14th, 2021! Games, fun, songs, dances, round dances, treats, folk rituals and many, many interesting things are waiting for you! And during the period from February 24th to March 12th you can take part in the interactive programs «Celebrating Maslenka» and «Svyaty Aulas na bliny las», in which guests of the museum will be introduced to the most common elements of traditional Maslenitsa customs and rituals.

Maslenitsa is traditionally associated with the farewell of winter and the arrival of the long-awaited spring, and all ritual actions are aimed at ensuring prosperity, rich harvest and well-being. It was strictly forbidden not to celebrate the holiday, because the Belarusians believed that the long flax would grow, and the cow would calve only from those owners who celebrated Maslenitsa!
In the museum you can immerse yourself in a real atmosphere of this wonderful holiday, take part in the seven days of Maslenitsa week, as well as try yourself in fun games and entertainment. The most active participants will receive prizes.
The culmination of the holiday will be the solemn burning of the dummy of winter - «Morena».

In the program of the holiday:

• performance of folklore groups, the headliner of the event - the group «LityTaler»;
• carnival games and entertainment for children and adults;
• screening of the Belarusian shadow theater «Vertep»;
• puppet show «Batleyka»;
• conducting master classes for children and adults;
• reconstruction of the carnival rituals «Burial of the Grandfather» (only for adults), «Visit to the midwife», etc .;
• Maslenitsa pillar with prizes;
• knight's playground;
• numerous contests;
• playground of historical reconstruction «Maslenitsa - 1914»;
• exhibition of traditional dishes for making butter and cheese;
• the biggest «Morena» in the vicinity of Minsk.

And on the eve of the holiday from February 24th to March 12th the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Life invites you to take part in interactive programs «Celebrating Maslenka» and «Svyaty Aulas na bliny las», during which guests will be able to learn the traditions of Maslenitsa celebrations and what they did every day of Maslenitsa week. As part of the program, visitors to the museum will enjoy games and fun, puppet-making master classes, a performance by the Batleika puppet theater, and a round dance around Morena dummy.
