To book a tourThe Tower of thunder of the fortress wall was built in the Smolensk in 1609. This name was given to the tower due to the fact that it stood out as a high point on a flat terrain, why thunder often flashed around the tower, lightning flashed.
The tower has been restored and is now presented in its original form. In the XIX century the loopholes of the tower were turned into wide windows, there was located the provincial archive. In 1932 here was opened a museum of socialist construction. In the middle of the XX century the tower was used as a dwelling in the city destroyed after the Second World War.
In 1977 in the tower was opened a museum dedicated to the combat history of Smolensk. The exposition of the museum is located on three tiers of the tower and includes ancient maps, armor, banners, etc ..
