Victory Square

Victory Monument (architect V. Korol, and G.V. Zaborsky) was opened on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazis in May 1954. The monument is made of gray granite in the form of 38-meter high obelisk, decorated with ornaments and belts Belarusian installed on a high pedestal. Three-meter obelisk topped the Order of Victory, made of bronze and polychrome glazes.
The main sculptural decoration obelisk are four monumental high relief, which reflect the events of World War II: ”The Soviet Army during World War II”, ”Glory to the heroes of the dead”, ”Partisans in Belarus”, ”May 9, 1945”.
At the foot of the monument July 3, 1961, day 17 - the anniversary of liberation of Minsk, honorary citizen of the city of Minsk, the Hero of the Soviet Union, Colonel General Alexander Burdeyny was lit an eternal flame.
In 1984, in connection with the introduction of the Minsk metro by architects Larchenko B., B. Shkolnikova and К. Vyazgina the Victory square was replanned. From the Round, it was an oval next to the monument installed granite blocks with inscriptions dedicated to the hero-city. Under the square was built circular gallery, which is converted into a memorial hall in memory of fallen heroes.
