National Park ”Narochansky”
Narachansky National Park is a gem of Belarus. It is one of the largest natural complexes in the country, covering the northwestern part of Minsk Region, the western part of Vitebsk Region, and the northern part of Grodno Region with a total area of 87,300 hectares. This park is a perfect place for nature lovers and a popular destination for excursions across Belarus.
The Beauty and Majesty of Narachansky Lakes
The park features around 40 lakes, which occupy 17% of its total area. The lakes are surrounded by pristine forests and are home to rare animal species. The lakes are divided into three groups: Boldukskaya, Narachanskaya, and Myadel groups. The main highlight of the park is Lake Narach, the largest natural water reservoir in Belarus. It covers an area of 80 km², and its water is so clean that it is suitable for breeding whitefish.
Flora of Narachansky National Park
The park is home to about 1,400 plant species, over 100 of which are considered rare and endangered. The landscapes are formed by forests, meadows, swamps, and shrubs. The most impressive forest areas are located in the southwestern ridges of the Sventsyansk Hills and the Narach-Myadel Highlands.
Rich Fauna: Rare Birds and Mammals
Narachansky National Park is a true paradise for wildlife enthusiasts. It hosts at least 243 species of terrestrial vertebrates, including rare bird species such as the pygmy owl, white grouse, and great curlew. The region’s water bodies are home to 32 fish species, including brook trout, whitefish, and vendace.
Unique Nature Reserves and Architectural Landmarks
The park includes seven reserves, such as “Blue Lakes,” “Cheremshitsy,” and “Cheriaki Peninsula.” History lovers can explore numerous architectural landmarks like the St. Andrew’s Church, the 18th-century Carmelite Monastery in Zasvir, and wooden churches in the villages of Narach and Svir.
Archaeological Heritage of Narach Region
The Narach region is a place where Baltic and Slavic cultures intersected. Ancient sites from the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras, as well as Iron Age burial mounds and settlements, have been preserved here.
