National Airport «Minsk» — the air gateway of Belarus. National Airport «Minsk» is the main international airport of the country. It is located only 21 km from the center of Minsk, making it convenient for tourists and travelers. The airport began its history on July 1, 1983, as the Second Minsk United Aviation Detachment and has since transformed into a modern air terminal complex, handling millions of passengers annually.

Construction History and First Flights

In the 1970s, Minsk-1 airport could no longer cope with the growing passenger flow. In 1977, the construction of a new airport began, initially called "Minsk-2." Two years later, a 3,640-meter-long runway was put into operation. The first passenger flight took place in 1982 on the Minsk — Simferopol route. Regular flights started in July 1983.

Development and Modernization

Since its opening, the airport has been constantly evolving. In 1993, the construction of the terminal building with unique architecture was completed. In 2014, the airport underwent a large-scale reconstruction, increasing its capacity to six million passengers per year. Today, the airport is equipped with modern lighting systems, enabling it to receive all types of aircraft, including the world’s largest Airbus A380.
