Winter Garden

Type: Parks, squares Date of Foundation: 1839 year Status: Republican value Republic of Belarus, Gomel

The Winter Garden in Gomel is a true tropical fairy tale in the heart of the city and one of the brightest elements of the Gomel palace and park ensemble. Located in the southern part of the park, near the picturesque Swan Lake, it has long become a favorite place for walks and relaxation for both locals and tourists. The atmosphere here is unique: green crowns of exotic trees, humid air filled with plant aromas, the sound of water, and a pet corner with rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, and fish. This place is a must-visit for everyone who wants to go on tours around Belarus and discover a corner of eternal summer at any time of the year.

History

The history of the Winter Garden dates back to the 18th century, when a stone building was first mentioned on the site of the future greenhouse. It is believed that it was used as housing for Count Rumyantsev's servants and later given to a noble school. When the Paskevich family came into possession, the building received a new purpose: in 1877, Prince Paskevich, inspired by the idea of creating a real green paradise in Gomel, transformed it into a greenhouse. The walls were lined with natural minerals, Russian stoves were installed for heating, and work began on a unique plant collection. Chamaerops palm, fig tree, and many other rare species were cultivated here. The history of the Winter Garden is one of care, taste, and love for nature, which you can learn about during a guided tour.
