Church of St. Alexander in Indura

Type: Churches Style: Retrospective -russian Date of Foundation: 1881 year Status: Without a category Republic of Belarus, Grodno district, village Indura

The Orthodox Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in the village of Indura is a vivid example of the Neo-Russian (retrospective Russian) style, harmoniously integrated into the Belarusian rural landscape. Located in the very center of the village, the church remains an important spiritual and architectural landmark for both locals and visitors.

History

The church was built in 1881 on land donated by the local landowner Ivan Kozlovsky. The first design, developed in 1876, was not implemented due to rising construction costs and was later used in the village of Lunno. The second project, designed for 350 parishioners, was created by provincial architect Kalyankevich in 1879. He moved away from standard architectural templates and aimed to simplify and modernize the composition. In 1880, he also developed the iconostasis project for the church.

Architecture

The church follows a classical four-part layout: a bell tower, refectory, main hall, and a pentagonal apse. Its most notable feature is the original pyramidal silhouette, achieved through varying roof shapes and volumes. A unique artistic fresco depicting a Gospel scene decorates the apse. The church underwent exterior renovation in 2010.
