A memorial pillar was installed in the late 18th century in honor of the Constitution of May 3, 1791 - the basic law of the Commonwealth, adopted by the Sejm in Warsaw. The Constitution declared the sovereignty of the Commonwealth, and was the first in Europe and second in the world, the basic law, recorded in writing.
