Chapel-Mausoleum of Christ the Savior in the village of Akhremovtsy is a 19th-century architectural monument in the style of retrospective Gothic, located in the agrotown of Akhremovtsy, Braslaw District, Vitebsk Region. Built in 1858 at the initiative of Count Plater, it served as a family mausoleum and is one of the most striking Neo-Gothic structures in Belarus.

History

The village of Akhremovtsy, formerly known as Belmonty, belonged to the Akhremovich family from the 17th century. In the 19th century, the estate passed to the Broël-Plater counts. It was on their initiative that the chapel-mausoleum was erected as the burial place for family members. Next to the chapel once stood the Manuzzi Palace, which has not survived to the present day. Today, the chapel is part of the region’s historical and cultural heritage.

Architecture

The chapel is built of red brick in the style of retrospective Gothic. It has a rectangular layout with a gabled roof, and its facade is adorned with two small towers and a stepped attic. A distinctive feature of the architecture is a rose window, typical of Gothic buildings. Pointed-arch side windows provide natural light to the interior. The chapel is surrounded by a massive fence with central gates and two small corner chapels, giving the entire complex a complete and harmonious appearance.

Cultural and Historical Significance

The chapel-mausoleum in Akhremovtsy is an important monument of Belarusian architecture and history. It reflects the influence of European Gothic on 19th-century Belarusian architecture and stands as a testament to the cultural and religious traditions of that time. The chapel complex and surrounding structures are of interest to researchers, tourists, and anyone interested in history and architecture.
