The Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Lavrenty of Turov is the main Orthodox church of the ancient town of Turov, a symbol of the city's spiritual revival and its connection to the great Christian heritage. The cathedral was built in honor of the two most renowned natives of Turov — Saints Cyril and Lavrenty, who left a profound legacy in the history of the Belarusian Church.

History

The first stone cathedral in Turov was built in the 12th century, when the city served as the capital of a principality and was a major spiritual center. In the 13th century, the church was destroyed by an earthquake and later during Tatar invasions. Despite losing political importance, Turov remained a cathedral city, and the idea of restoring the church arose repeatedly.

In the early 20th century, Saint Mitrophan, Archbishop of Minsk and Turov, began raising funds for a new church. However, historical upheavals delayed the project for decades. Only in the 21st century, under the initiative of Bishop Stefan, did the construction of the new cathedral begin. In November 2009, the project was blessed by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus'.

Architecture

The present-day cathedral was built between 2010 and 2013 in a Neo-Russian style inspired by the traditions of ancient Rus’ ecclesiastical architecture. The complex includes the main church, a two-tier bell tower, a chapel-gazebo with an ancient stone cross beneath its dome, and a well-maintained surrounding area. The interiors are decorated with traditional iconographic motifs and elaborate frescoes.
