Victory Park

Type: Parks, squares Date of Foundation: 1945 year Status: Without a category

Victory Park is one of the most picturesque corners of the capital, combining a majestic natural panorama with modern recreational areas. This spacious green zone, stretching along the banks of the Svislach River, has become a favorite spot for both peaceful walks in nature and active leisure. Its well-equipped beaches, walking paths, boat rentals, and cozy natural islands make the park a true oasis in the heart of the city.

History

Originally conceived in 1940 as a water protection zone, the park began with the creation of an artificial lake — the future Komsomolskoye Lake. The outbreak of war interrupted the construction, and the idea of landscaping was only resumed after the Victory. In memory of those who gave their lives for freedom, the area was named «Victory Park». In 1985, the iconic obelisk «Minsk — Hero City» was erected here. In 2013, the park was granted the status of the museum and park complex «Pobeda», but for locals, it remains simply Victory Park.

Infrastructure

The park’s modern infrastructure took shape in 2011 as part of a large-scale renovation. Today, it covers more than 200 hectares and includes not only green areas but also a system of lakes and islands connected by bridges. Among its architectural and engineering elements are piers for boats and riverboats, beaches with showers and sports facilities, as well as illuminated alleys and walking bridges. The vast water surface allows for river cruises aboard the «Svislach» motorboat or the «Kasatka» speedboat — both equipped with everything needed for a comfortable ride.

Excursions

An excursion from Minsk to Victory Park is a wonderful opportunity to discover this remarkable site as part of an individual or group tour. Conveniently located in the city center, the park is often included in sightseeing routes around the capital, especially in tours dedicated to military history and the cultural heritage of Belarus. A private tour of Victory Park offers not only a walk through its memorial landmarks but also a boat ride, a visit to Bird Island, views of iconic architectural features, and a chance to relax in the peaceful shade of its tree-lined paths.
