Cottage M. Bogdanovich

Type: Objects of culture Grodno, st. Bogdanovich, 1

The Maxim Bogdanovich Museum in Grodno is a unique place that should be included in excursions across Belarus. Opened in 1986, the museum is located in the house where the family of the outstanding Belarusian poet Maxim Bogdanovich lived from 1892 to 1896. If you are planning an excursion from Minsk or want to book a tour in Grodno, this museum will be a true discovery for anyone interested in Belarusian literature and culture.

The museum’s exhibition occupies four rooms of the house, with a total area of 56 m². Here, visitors can learn about the life and work of Maxim Bogdanovich, view family photographs, personal belongings of the poet, and the first and only lifetime collection of his poems, "Vyanok" (1913).

The exhibition introduces visitors to the view of Grodno at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, tells about the activities of the "Nasha Niva" newspaper, the publishing group "The Sun Will Shine into Our Window", as well as about the poet’s life in Minsk and the last months of his life in Yalta. One section is dedicated to Bogdanovich’s visit to Rakutevshchina, and one room recreates the interior of the Bogdanovich family’s study-apartment.

The museum includes halls such as the portrait gallery of famous people, a section on the literary and social movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the Grodno period of the Bogdanovich family’s life. Additionally, the house contains four memorial rooms: the father’s study, the mother’s room, the children’s room, and the living room. A separate section is devoted to the literary history of the Grodno region – its past and present.

Among the museum’s exhibits are personal belongings of Maxim Bogdanovich, documents, letters, household items from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as materials describing the social and literary life of that time. An excursion to the Maxim Bogdanovich Museum offers an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the era and better understand the work of this classic of Belarusian literature.
