St. Tikhon Church in Gantsevichy
Gantsevichi St. Tikhon Church – one of the youngest Orthodox shrines in the Brest region. It is located in the town of Gantsevichi at the intersection of Stroiteley and Oktyabrskaya streets. This is a white-stone church with five domes, built in the traditions of ancient Russian architecture. Today, the church serves as a spiritual center for believers in the town and nearby settlements. Many tours across Belarus include a visit to this church, and tourists who want to connect with the history of Orthodox culture can book a tour with a visit to the church.
History of Creation
The history of the parish and the construction of the new church began in 1991. The initiative to establish an Orthodox community was taken by local residents, particularly Vera Kurilik from Gantsevichi. On December 14 of the same year, a parish meeting was held, during which a church council was elected, and a decision was made to establish an Orthodox religious community.
In 1993, the Gantsevichi district executive committee allocated a building that previously housed the district education department to the Orthodox community for religious services. A year later, in 1994, priest Pyotr Pilipchuk was appointed as the church’s rector. He conducted the first service on September 27, on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
The construction of the new church lasted about eight years. On Easter in 2002, Archbishop Stefan of Pinsk and Luninets held the first service in the newly built white-stone church following a religious procession from the old church building. Since then, the church has been an important spiritual center for the Gantsevichi region.
Architecture and Spiritual Life
St. Tikhon Church is built in the style of ancient Russian church architecture. It is a brick building with five domes and a bell tower, decorated with narrow vertical arched windows. The architectural design of the facades emphasizes the elegance of the forms and the majestic silhouette of the building.
The church's religious life is vibrant with regular services, celebrations, and spiritual gatherings. Liturgies, baptisms, weddings, and other Orthodox sacraments are held here. The church also operates a Sunday school and organizes charitable and educational events.
