Steam locomotive - a monument of Belarusian Railway
Steam locomotive Em-710-30 is a striking monument to the Belarusian railway, located near the Baranovichi-Polesskie station. This 55-ton shunting engine has become a notable landmark of the city, symbolizing the strength and historical importance of the railway in the development of Baranovichi. Today, it greets travelers on the station square and attracts tourists and technology enthusiasts alike.
History
The monument was erected in 1986, the year when Baranovichi officially celebrated its City Day for the first time — the 115th anniversary. While the Em-710-30 locomotive is typical of its era, it played a key role in resolving historical debates: it proved that the city's origin was the Moscow-Brest railway station, not the nearby village of Baranovichi. The monument honors all three railway stations in the city and was presented by railway workers as a gift on the city's anniversary.
In 2019, the locomotive was restored and became not only a symbol of Baranovichi’s railway heritage, but also a unique highlight of the renewed station square. It represents the final generation of standard-gauge steam locomotives produced in the USSR in the mid-20th century.
