Spaso-Preobrazhenskiy church in Mstislavl
Mstislavl Transfiguration Church is a unique monument of 19th-century wooden architecture that can be seen during an excursion around Belarus. This church is located in a cemetery at the exit from Mstislavl towards Smolensk. Today, the church is not operational and is in poor condition, although some restoration work has been carried out to replace the roof and windows.
Architecture
The architecture of the church includes a rectangular main hall with a hipped roof and a two-tiered tented bell tower topped with an onion dome. The entrances are adorned with brick steps, and inside, a flat wooden ceiling has been preserved.Significance
During the Soviet era, the Transfiguration Church was the only functioning church in Mstislavl, making it an important historical landmark. Today, the church is recognized as a historical and cultural heritage site of Belarus and is under state protection.
