The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord is a Catholic church located in the village of Novaya Mysh, part of the Baranovichi Deanery of the Pinsk Diocese. This architectural monument in the Classicism style was built in 1825. It is one of the must-see attractions during excursions in Belarus. On May 14, 2007, it was granted the status of a cultural heritage site of national importance.

History of the Church: From Wooden to Brick

The first church in Mysh was built from wood in 1641 with funds from Kazimir Lev Sapieha. Almost two centuries later, in 1825, a modern brick building of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was erected on its site. The church is surrounded by a fence with three-arched stone gates in Neo-Russian style, and a wooden two-tiered shingled bell tower stands nearby. You can book an excursion to see this place from Minsk or other cities in Belarus.

Architectural Features of the Church

The Transfiguration Church is a rectangular building with a gable roof. Its three-sided apse is covered with a hipped roof, while the main facade is designed as a portico with four pairs of columns and a triangular pediment, characteristic of late Classicism. The side facades feature pointed arched windows. The pediment is crowned by a small tent-shaped lantern, adding a special charm to the church.

Interior: Works of Art in Baroque and Rococo Styles

In 1905, the church's interior was decorated with valuable pieces of applied decorative art. Three carved wooden altars, a pulpit, and an organ in Baroque and Rococo styles were transferred from the Benedictine Church in Nesvizh and became true masterpieces. They are distinguished by intricate carvings and abundant gilding, creating a unified artistic ensemble.

Altars and Pulpit — Treasures of Belarusian Culture

The church’s main two-tiered altar features two paintings: "The Transfiguration" on the lower tier and "The Holy Family" on the upper tier. The three-tiered side altars follow the same style, with similar carvings, sculptures, and paintings. The pulpit, created in 1745, is adorned with gilded figures of evangelists, cherubs, and hunting attributes. The canopy of the pulpit is topped with a sculptural group of angels, adding a solemn touch to the interior.

The Rococo Organ

The Rococo-style organ, installed on the church choir, was built in the mid-18th century and renovated in the late 19th century. This musical instrument impresses with its magnificent sound and harmoniously complements the church's interior. Visiting the church during an excursion from Minsk or another city will allow you to touch history and feel the grandeur of the past.
