Prechistenskaya church in Ostrov

Type: Churches Date of Foundation: 1720 year Status: Regional value Republic of Belarus, Brest region, Pinsk district, Ostrov village

In the village of Ostrav, on the left bank of the Styr River, stands a unique monument of folk wooden architecture – the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Originally built in 1720 as the Uniate Prechistensky Church, it acquired its modern appearance after a partial reconstruction in 1869.

The architectural ensemble of the church impresses with its uniqueness: a rectangular log structure with a three-walled apse, above the main facade rises a quadrangular bell tower with an onion dome, harmoniously integrated into the gabled roof. One of the church’s greatest treasures is the ancient icon of the “Mother of God of Tenderness,” attracting pilgrims and admirers of Orthodox culture.

In front of the church stands a three-tiered log-frame bell tower, crowned with a four-sided shingled spire, adding even more grandeur to the complex. This wooden church is one of the most fascinating landmarks of Belarus, recommended for visitors interested in history, architecture, and religious heritage.
