The obelisk dedicated to the battle of 1812 was erected in 1962 and stands 7 meters tall. The monument was installed in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gorodechno. At this site, a fierce 14-hour confrontation took place between the 3rd corps of the Russian army, led by General Tormasov, with 18,000 soldiers fighting against Napoleon’s 40,000-strong corps. As a result of the battle, the French army lost about 6,000 soldiers and officers.
