Ikazn St. Nicholas Church

St. Nicholas Church in the village of Ikazn is not only a vivid example of the Moscow school of architecture but also an important monument of Belarus' historical and cultural heritage. Built in 1905 by order of Emperor Nicholas II, it represents the pseudo-Russian architectural style. The church is located in the village of Ikazn in the Braslav district and is often included in tours around Belarus, as well as local excursions in the Braslav region.

History of Creation

St. Nicholas Church in Ikazn was erected on the initiative of Emperor Nicholas II. Previously, a wooden Uniate church stood on this site. In the 1960s, the church was closed, repurposed as a warehouse, and its icons were transferred to a church in Vitebsk. In the early 1990s, restoration began, and the church was reopened to parishioners.

Architecture and Spiritual Life

Today, St. Nicholas Church in Ikazn is a two-story brick building with an adjoining two-story bell tower-vestibule topped with a tented roof and a cupola. The main structure is crowned with an onion-shaped dome. The facades are adorned with decorative bands, columns, cornices, elongated windows, and an arched entrance.
