Guerrilla Glory Monument in Begoml
To book a tourBegoml is a small town, located in Vitebsk region of Belarus. It was first mentioned in written sources in 1582 as one of the villages of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
During the Great Patriotic War the settlement Begoml was part of the Borisov-Begoml guerrilla zone. In December 1941 a partisan detachment «Romana» started activities in the region. Later it was transformed into a partisan brigade «Zheleznyak». In December 1942 thanks to this fact a large enemy garrison was destroyed in Begoml. As a result the village was turned into the center of the guerrilla movement in Begoml region.
Leaving Begoml in the direction to Dokshitsy you can see Guerrilla Glory Monument at an intersection of roads Minsk-Polotsk and Glubokoe-Borisov. On the memorial plaque there is an epitaph: «Here there was a guerrilla airfield in the years 1942-1944 that was used to mantain connection with «Mainland», a group of organizers of the guerrilla movement in Lithuania comes from here». The monument was opened in 1967 by Petr Masherov, who mentioned the contribution of Begoml guerrillas to the common struggle against fascists.
