Paskevich”s Manor in Korenevka

Type: Palaces Style: Romance Date of Foundation: 1 century Status: Regional value Republic of Belarus, Gomel region, Gomel distrikt, v. Korenevka

Amid a picturesque forest landscape, on the shore of a clear pond with an emerald hue, rises an elegant red-brick building — the manor house known as Prince Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich’s «Hunting Lodge». This two-story mansion is a true gem of 19th-century aristocratic architecture and attracts the attention of both historians and travelers seeking the ambiance of a bygone era. The house is surrounded by an old park with exotic trees, and nearby lies a pond wrapped in legends.

History

The history of the Korenyovsky estate began in 1834, when Field Marshal Paskevich acquired the property from Count Sergey Rumyantsev. At that time, the estate already housed a distillery and a brickworks. Three decades later, in 1865–1866, construction of the «Hunting Lodge» began, designed by renowned St. Petersburg architects Alexander Pel and Rudolf Gedike. As the estate was being arranged, taxidermy specimens of birds and animals were brought from St. Petersburg — evidence of the owner’s passion for hunting. In 1882, a detailed instruction manual was developed for managing and maintaining the property.

Architecture

The manor house is a refined example of palace-park architecture from the second half of the 19th century. The red brick used in its construction gives the building a distinctive appearance that harmonizes beautifully with the natural surroundings. Spacious windows, elegant decorative elements, and a well-thought-out layout make it a true architectural masterpiece. Special attention was paid to the landscaping: rare species of trees were planted around the house, many of which have survived to this day and continue to create a unique atmosphere.
