The monument resettled villages
The Chernobyl nuclear disaster delivered a devastating blow not only to the Chernobyl zone but also affected the Kormyansky district of Belarus. Between 1990 and 1996, the region experienced a massive exodus of residents, accompanied by the complete liquidation of 29 villages – an event that today attracts tourists interested in the history of nuclear catastrophes and abandoned places.
Monument of Memory and Tragedy
In the town of Korma, this tragic period of history is commemorated by a unique monument to the relocated villages – one of the few installations of its kind in Belarus. This landmark has become an important stop for those planning historical tours and eager to learn more about the fates of affected settlements.
Abandoned Ghost Villages: A Tourist Route
Although many settlements in the Kormyansky district have been permanently hidden by history, a few ghost villages with partially preserved structures remain. The atmosphere of these abandoned places, reminiscent of modern-day Pripyat in Ukraine, attracts tourists in search of unique routes and authentic stories in the forgotten corners of Belarus.
