Monument to P.N. Lepeshinsky
The bust of Panteleimon Nikolaevich Lepeshinsky is a monument created in the 1970s by the Gomel sculptor S. Adashkevich. This monument is dedicated to an outstanding public figure, revolutionary, educational reformer, and writer-publicist who left a significant mark on the history of education and public life in Belarus.
The History of the Commune School
In the summer of 1918, P.N. Lepeshinsky founded a commune school at this location. With the support of local authorities, a building was allocated, and equipment was delivered from Moscow. In this school, education was combined with labor activities, which aligned with the progressive educational methods of that time. Special attention was given to the aesthetic upbringing of students.
Relocation of the School and Commemoration
By the end of 1919, the school was relocated to Moscow, but the memory of its founder remained in the region's history. In 1968, a monument to P.N. Lepeshinsky was erected in front of the school building. His name was also given to a local collective farm and school, highlighting the significance of his contribution to education development.
The Lepeshinsky Memorial Museum
On March 12, 1968, the P.N. Lepeshinsky Memorial Museum was opened as a branch of the regional museum of local history. The museum's exhibition is based on personal belongings and documents brought from the revolutionary’s Moscow apartment, allowing visitors to explore his life and work in greater depth.
Where is Lepeshinsky’s Bust Located?
Today, the bust of P.N. Lepeshinsky can be seen on the site in front of the secondary school in the village of Litvinovichi. This historical monument is an important part of the region's cultural heritage and attracts tourists interested in revolutionary history and the development of education in Belarus.
