Building of the former Zemstvo Board

The Building of the Former Zemstvo Administration in Rogachev is one of the most significant architectural and historical monuments of the city. It was built between 1914 and 1916 and has served various governmental institutions for over a century. Despite historical upheavals, including revolutionary events, wars, and fires, the building has been preserved and today stands as an example of Art Nouveau architecture.

History of Construction

The structure was erected between 1914 and 1916 on the site of the old district chancery. Initially, it served as the administrative center of the Zemstvo self-government. After the October Revolution of 1917, the building became the Palace of Labor, emphasizing its new purpose as a center for organizing workers and employees. During World War II, the construction was almost undamaged, but a fire destroyed the interior wooden structures and window frames. In the post-war period, the building underwent major renovations and housed the district executive authorities. Later, the first floor was occupied by the Lenin Central City Library, while the second floor housed an extracurricular activity center and the Pioneer organization.

Architecture

The architectural appearance of the building is executed in the Art Nouveau style, giving it a distinctive expressiveness. In 2016, ahead of the Day of Belarusian Written Language, the building was restored, preserving its historical appearance and updating the facade details. Today, it is an important element of the city's architectural heritage, harmoniously blending into the surrounding urban landscape.
