Chapel-tomb NonHartov in Gajtyushniki
Nonhart Family Chapel-Mausoleum in the village of Haitsyunishki is a 17th-century architectural monument located in the Voranava District of the Grodno Region, Belarus. Built in 1633, it served as the family burial chapel of the Nonhart lineage and is a rare example of a Calvinist church (kirche) in Baroque style.
History
Petr Nonhart, a Dutch engineer and architect who arrived in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania at the invitation of King Sigismund III Vasa, received land in Haitsyunishki in the early 17th century. In 1613, he built a fortified manor house here, and in 1633, according to his will, his daughter Susanna erected the chapel-mausoleum nearby, where Petr Nonhart and other family members were buried.
After Petr Nonhart’s death, the estate passed to his daughter Susanna, who married Yuri Khreptovich, the Voivode of Novogrudok. Later, their son Adam Khreptovich inherited the estate. Over time, the manor was also owned by the Schrötter, Puttkamer, Osten-Sacken, and Rymsha families.
Architecture
The chapel-mausoleum is built in Baroque style with elements of defensive architecture. The building features thick walls, strong buttresses, and compact proportions, giving it the appearance of a miniature fortress. This architectural form is characteristic of Calvinist churches of that period.
Cultural and Historical Significance
The Nonhart Family Chapel-Mausoleum is an important monument of Belarusian architecture and history. It reflects the influence of European styles on 17th-century Belarusian design and stands as evidence of the cultural and religious traditions of its time. Despite damage and decay, the ruins of the chapel retain historical value and attract researchers and tourists alike.
