Church of the Holy Trinity in Indura
The Church of the Holy Trinity in the village of Indura, Grodno Region, is a striking example of late Classicism with elements of Neoclassicism and Neo-Baroque. This majestic Catholic church, rising in the very center of the settlement, is rightfully considered the architectural dominant and spiritual symbol of Indura. Inside, it houses the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Indura, and the church is especially renowned for its unique atmosphere during Christmas and Easter.
History
The history of the Indura parish begins in 1542, when, at the initiative of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania official Jan Dowojna, the first wooden church was built here. After several generations of reconstruction, a stone church was erected in the early 19th century under the guidance of parish priest Father Radzewicz. Like its predecessors, it was consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. Even during the Soviet period, the church remained open, with services conducted by Jesuits. A new phase of restoration began in 1984, and in 2000 the church was granted the status of a Jesuit mission. Today, it is again administered by parish priests.
Architecture
In the early 20th century, the church underwent a major reconstruction based on the design by provincial architect Vladimir Sroka. As a result, the building acquired unique features: a transept with an apse, a chapel, and a bell tower were added to the main structure. The main facade is adorned with a Doric four-column portico with an arched opening, and wooden sculptures of saints are placed in the niches. The interior preserves three wooden altars, frescoes on Gospel themes, and a Baroque pipe organ. In the courtyard, you can see sculptures of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, Lithuanian-style chapels, and the «Grotto of Mary».
