The Bernardine Monastery Complex is one of the outstanding monuments of religious architecture in the Grodno region, included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus. It is a baroque-style ensemble that includes a church and the surviving monastic buildings. This site is often part of excursions across Belarus due to its rich history, architectural expression, and spiritual significance.

History

On the site of the current church in Ivye, a Gothic church stood from the late 15th century, dated to 1491–1495. In the 16th century, the building was converted into a Calvinist cathedral, and later passed to the Arians, under whom a printing house and school were established here. From 1585 to 1593, the school was headed by the well-known educator Jan Namysłowski. In 1612, the church was returned to the Catholics, and in 1633, it was significantly rebuilt and transferred to the Bernardine order. During the Russo-Polish War, the church was destroyed, but at the end of the 18th century, the construction of a new baroque church began, and it was consecrated in 1787. Since 1858, after the closure of the monastery, the church has served as a parish church.

Architecture

The current church building is a single-nave hall-type structure with two towers and an expressive façade decorated with pilasters and ornamental domes. The cylindrical vaults of the nave give the interior a sense of grandeur, while the pentagonal apse emphasizes the completeness of the composition. Of particular interest are the stepped buttresses, which add both stability and decorative charm. Nearby are preserved fragments of the monastery buildings: the western and partially the eastern wings of the residential block, as well as a statue of Christ — a symbol of spiritual protection and faith.
