Church of Intercession in Turec
Pokrovskaya Church in the agro-town of Turets, Grodno Region is an Orthodox church and a monument of Neo-Russian architectural style from the late 19th century. It is located in Korelichi District.
History
The first church in Turets was built in 1747 out of wood. In 1886, construction began on a new stone church on the same site, which was completed in August 1888. The construction was supervised by engineer A. Nektyarevsky. The iconostasis for the church was made at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg by a native of Turets — master Grigory Loyko.
Architecture
Pokrovskaya Church is built from rubble stone and brick in the shape of a cross, typical of the Neo-Russian style. The structure is three-naved, cross-in-square, with a square apse and a two-tier bell tower. The façades feature a combination of plastered elements (pilasters, window frames, cornices) and exposed rubble masonry.
Cultural and Religious Significance
Since its consecration in 1888, Pokrovskaya Church has served as a spiritual center for the residents of Turets and nearby villages. The church remains active today and continues to host religious services.
