Monument to R.Traugutt

The monument to Romuald Traugutt in Svislach is an important historical site associated with the national liberation movement of the 19th century. It was erected on June 17, 1928, at the initiative of Boleslaw Borys, the director of the Svislach Teachers' Seminary. The memorial is made of local mica stone and adorned with metal elements, including a bas-relief portrait of Traugutt and an image of an eagle.

Historical inscription on the monument

A bronze plaque on the monument bears the inscription: "To Romuald Traugutt – from his compatriots. 1928." This inscription emphasizes the respect and remembrance of the legendary leader of the 1863 uprising. On the left side of the monument, the dates of his birth and death are inscribed, while on the right, the symbols "God and Fatherland" are displayed, under which the insurgents fought for independence.

Destruction and restoration of the monument

In 1939, the monument was almost completely destroyed, reflecting the complex historical events of that period. However, in 1989, a group of restorers from Grodno, led by A.S. Antipin, restored the memorial, bringing it back to its original appearance. Today, the monument to Romuald Traugutt in Svislach is a significant landmark that attracts tourists and historians.
