The History of the Lyakhovichi Church of St. Joseph
The construction of the Church of St. Joseph began in the early 20th century and was completed in 1907. For several decades, the church played an important role in the spiritual life of Lyakhovichi. However, in 1950, the church was remodeled, losing a significant part of its original structure, including its bell tower. During the Soviet era, the building was used for non-religious purposes, and only in the 2000s did its gradual restoration begin. On September 4, Bishop Antoni Demyanko of Pinsk consecrated the grounds of the newly returned Catholic church. From that moment, spiritual life in the parish was revived, and Father Pavel Mazan, who had previously served in Gomel, became its pastor.
Architecture and Spiritual Life of the Lyakhovichi Church of St. Joseph
Originally, the Church of St. Joseph was built in a Neo-Gothic style, characterized by slender proportions, elegant arches, and a tall bell tower. However, mid-20th-century reconstructions altered its appearance, removing many of its distinctive elements. Despite these changes, the church has retained its grandeur and remains an interesting subject of study. Today, the church once again hosts services, religious celebrations, and pilgrimages, making it a significant site for believers.
