Church of Michael in Obrovo
Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Obrovo is a unique monument of Polesie folk architecture. According to official data, the church was built in 1860, but some evidence suggests that its history may date back much earlier. Some sources claim that the building might have been erected in the 18th century and later underwent significant reconstruction. This church is one of the popular tourist sites that can be visited as part of tours around Belarus.
Architectural Features of the Church
The architectural style of the church impresses with its simplicity and minimalism. The exterior is almost devoid of decorative elements, giving the structure a special austerity and asceticism. The main feature of the church is the massive two-tiered bell tower, which attracts the attention of every visitor and harmoniously completes the architectural ensemble. Tourists taking tours from Minsk often stop here to see this architectural treasure of Polesie.
Revival of the Sanctuary
The history of the church has seen difficult times. In the 1960s, the church was closed, and services were discontinued. However, three decades later, in 1990, the sanctuary was returned to believers. After restoration and re-consecration, the church once again became a place of prayer and spiritual unity for locals and pilgrims. Today, it is one of the must-visit places if you are planning to book a tour to the interesting corners of Belarus.
