Holy Trinity Church in Telekhany
History of the Construction of the Telekhany Holy Trinity Church
The history of the Telekhany Holy Trinity Church is closely connected with Prince Michał Ogiński — a prominent figure who made a great contribution to the development of the settlement. It was on his initiative and with his financial support that a new church was built in 1934 on the site of the old one, which had been burned down in 1915. Local craftsmen took part in the construction, using the best traditions of Belarusian wooden architecture.
After Telekhany became part of the BSSR, the church, unlike many others, was not closed and continued to operate, preserving the religious life of the settlement.
Architecture and Interior Decoration
The Holy Trinity Church is built in a retrospective Russian style, characterized by simplicity and harmony of forms. The main volume of the church has a cubic shape, crowned with a faceted drum and an onion-shaped dome. The tent-shaped bell tower with a small dome and cross draws particular attention, emphasizing the verticality of the composition.
The unusual two-tiered roof adds expressiveness to the building. Inside, the church is decorated with a carved iconostasis and ancient icons, among which the most revered is the Icon of the Mother of God Hodegetria — the Guide, considered the main shrine of the temple.
Legends and Beliefs Associated with the Church
According to legend, the name of the settlement Telekhany is associated with Khan Attila, who, as the story goes, was buried at the foot of Bald Mountain during the Tatar invasion. Locals believe that the spiritual power of this place protects the church from misfortunes and destruction.
There is also a belief that if you make a wish while walking along the green alley leading to the church and silently turn your thoughts to the Holy Trinity, your wish will surely come true.
