Park named AV Suvorov
Suvorov Park in Kobrin is one of the oldest parks in Belarus, established in 1768 as part of the “Kobrin Key” manor complex. Designed with a regular layout, the park combines historical value, botanical diversity, and a cultural recreation area. Today, it is a botanical natural monument of national significance and a popular public space in the center of Kobrin.
History
The park in Kobrin was founded in 1768 by order of Antoni Tyzengauz, Treasurer of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and was originally called “The Province.” After the Third Partition of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, Kobrin became part of the Russian Empire. In 1795, Empress Catherine II granted the estate to General Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov for his military achievements.
The military commander resided here in 1797 and 1800. At that time, the park covered no more than 4 hectares. It was surrounded by an earthen rampart and moat, with a pond and orchard inside, and Suvorov’s wooden house stood on the shore. The house was dismantled in 1894, and a memorial bust was installed in its place in 1950.
In 1948, the area was transformed into the Suvorov Park of Culture and Leisure. In 2007, by decree of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the park was granted the status of a botanical natural monument of national significance.
Design and Features
The park spans 32 hectares and retains elements of the 18th-century regular layout: a symmetrical alley network, a central axis with a linden alley, a pond with two islands, and a rotunda. The lindens in the old part of the park were planted during Suvorov’s lifetime. Along the paths grow maples, birches, spruces, thujas, firs, and more — over 70 species of trees and shrubs, including rare introduced ones.
The central area is decorated with flower beds, coniferous groups, and ornamental plantings. In 2009, a rotunda was built near the pond, serving as a venue for official wedding ceremonies and symbolic unions.
The park is also a space for active recreation. It features 18 amusement rides, including “Waltz,” “Calypso,” “Mini Mouse,” “Bells,” “Sun,” “Boats,” electric cars, and pedal boats. The children’s entertainment center “Kesha” offers a three-level play labyrinth, educational machines, and simulators. The territory also includes a roller-ski track with a rental station, walking bridges, a stage, and an amphitheater for up to 2,000 people.
Cultural and Natural Significance
Suvorov Park is a unique example of a preserved 18th-century regular park with a historical and memorial component. Its layout reflects the principles of European garden and park design and preserves the memory of the great military commander’s time in Kobrin.
Suvorov’s bust, the linden alleys, ancient ramparts, and historic plantings create a special cultural landscape that unites historical and natural heritage. Thanks to its diverse flora, the park is recognized as a botanical natural monument. It is of interest not only as a place for relaxation but also as a site of ecological, cultural, and memorial tourism.
Excursions and Visits
The park is open to the public and included in guided tour routes around Kobrin and the Brest Region. Visitors can walk along the linden alleys, see Suvorov’s bust, and relax by the pond or on the observation platforms.
