The building in which he lived Yakub Kolos
Pinsk became an important chapter in the biography of the classic Belarusian writer Yakub Kolas. From 1912 to 1915, he lived and worked here as a schoolteacher. It was in Pinsk that Kanstantsin Mitskevich (the writer’s real name) met his future wife — Maria Kamenskaya. Their wedding took place in July 1913 at the St. Barbara Church, commemorated today by a memorial plaque on the church bell tower. The couple's first son, Danila, was born in this city. The building where the writer stayed still preserves the spirit of that time. One authentic piece of furniture — the couch on which Kolas used to rest — is carefully preserved in the collections of the Museum of Belarusian Polesie.
As part of a tour of Pinsk, you will learn the story of this building — the guide will definitely stop here and tell you about the writer’s life in the city, his family, meeting Maria Kamenskaya, and the birth of their son. You will also hear about Kolas's wedding at St. Barbara Church and other memorable events. In addition, during tours of Pinsk, you will see old Catholic churches, the picturesque Pina River embankment, the Jesuit Collegium, and other architectural gems of the city.
