Church of Virgin Nativity in Parohonsk
The Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Parokhonsk is a wooden church built in 1888 and recognized as a monument of vernacular wooden architecture. It is located in the agrotown of Parokhonsk, Pinsk District, Brest Region, and holds the status of a site of national significance.
History
The church was erected in 1888 through the efforts of local parishioners and landowners, likely from the Drucki-Lubecki family, who owned the nearby estate. It replaced an older wooden church that had likely been lost. Throughout its history, the church underwent several restorations while preserving the features typical of traditional wooden architecture.
Architecture
The church is a rectangular log building with a four-sided apse. The two-tiered bell tower is topped with a tall spire. Its architectural appearance combines traditional carved wooden window frames with elements borrowed from stone church construction, such as pilasters and porticos. The onion-shaped dome crowns a faceted drum, giving the church the characteristics of the retrospective Russian style.
Cultural and Religious Significance
The church in Parokhonsk is a fine example of 19th-century wooden architecture and reflects the artistic influences in church construction of that period. It is one of the few preserved examples in the region, combining national traditions with religious symbolism. The church remains active and continues to serve as a spiritual center for the local Orthodox community.
