The Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Porechye is an Orthodox church located in the village of Porechye, Pinsk District, Brest Region of Belarus. This monument of wooden architecture from the early 20th century is an active parish church and a religious landmark of the region.
History
In 1866, a wooden Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in Porechye. Around 1907, the church was destroyed by fire. In 1912, a new wooden church in the retrospective Russian style was erected on the same site. In the early 2000s, the church was damaged by fire again and restored by 2004 with its original architectural composition preserved.
Architecture
The church is a wooden building that includes a tented bell tower, an altar apse, and the main volume with adjoining altars. A baroque dome topped with an onion-shaped cupola rises above the church. The architecture reflects the traditions of Belarusian vernacular wooden church construction of the early 20th century.
