Park place in Sarria
The park in the town of Sarya is a landscape estate park of the first half of the 19th century, located in the agrotown of Sarya, Verkhnedvinsk District. It has been preserved as part of the former estate of the noble Lopatin family and forms a green area along the picturesque valley of the Saryanka River with a ravine, bridges, and deciduous and coniferous plantations.
History
The park was established after 1807 near the Lopatin estate, whose members held high state and military positions. The layout of the park combined features of the English landscape style with elements of regular planning: terraces, ponds, alleys, bridges, and decorative features formed a unified space around the manor house.
After the revolution, the manor house was not preserved, but part of the park’s layout and individual elements, including the entrance gate with the family coat of arms, have survived. In the 20th century, the park became a public recreation area for local residents.
Design and elements
The park occupies the slopes of the Saryanka River valley. Among the preserved elements are a decorative bridge over the ravine, paths, fragments of old alleys, and clusters of circular plantings. Of particular interest are rare tree species: Weymouth pine, larch, and silver poplar. The entrance to the former estate is marked by a restored gate topped with the Lopatin family coat of arms.
Nearby is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary — the family burial site built in the 1850s. The church and the park together form a single historical and cultural ensemble.
Cultural and natural significance
The park in Sarya has preserved key features of an estate landscape and is of interest as a representative example of 19th-century noble park design. It also serves as a habitat for introduced tree species and illustrates the fusion of natural terrain with landscape architecture. The complex includes commemorative elements related to the Lopatin family, which played a significant role in the history of the Vitebsk region.
Excursions and visiting
The park is open for free visits and is included in tourist itineraries across the Verkhnedvinsk District and Vitebsk Region. During the excursion, visitors can see the restored gate, walk along the historic alleys, follow the ravine and river path, and visit the nearby church.
You can also book an individual or corporate guided tour including the park in Sarya and other regional attractions.
