History

Situated on the famous trade route «from the Varangians to the Greeks», Polotsk was an early center of the first Belarusian principality. Its historic core, known as Zapalotye, lies on the site of the ancient settlement where the city began. This area is now part of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.
