Slonim Spaso-Preobrazhenie Cathedral

Orthodox Spaso-Preobrazhenie Cathedral - the newest iconic building of Slonim. Though it was built recently, but has a history.

In 1635 in Slonim by Sapieha foundation Corpus Christi Catholic Church appeared, next to which in 1650 raised the monastery of Canons of the Lateran. In the middle of the XIX century, monks from the monastery was expelled, and the church was rebuilt in the Orthodox Church through the superstructure above the main volume of the dome. In 1963 the church was blown up, and in the 2000 it decided to restore it.

In restored Spaso-Preobrazhenie Cathedral with the bell shape of the main volume and Baroque gables like as catolic church, but the number of domes increased to five. Now the church is a massive stone base with five fine cupolas, located off-center, and staggered to the altar. reveal all text
