Glussk castle site

Glusk Castle Site – a historical site located in Glusk on the elevated right bank of the Ptich River. Once, a powerful Glusk Castle stood here, existing from the 16th to the 18th century. Today, no visible structures remain, but the site is of great interest to archaeologists and history enthusiasts. Currently, a city stadium occupies the former castle grounds, while the cultural layer of the area is protected by the state as an archaeological monument.

History of Creation

Glusk Castle was built in the 16th century on the site of an ancient settlement from the Early Iron Age and Kievan Rus. It was a fortified wooden stronghold with earthen ramparts and towers, including an entrance tower and a drawbridge. The castle played an important strategic role, protecting the area from attacks by Crimean Tatars, Cossacks, and Russian troops during the war of 1654–1667. At different times, the castle belonged to the Zaslavsky and Chartoryisky princes, and in the late 17th–18th centuries, it became the property of the Radziwiłł family. Gradually, the fortifications fell into decline, and by the end of the 18th century, the castle was completely ruined. Today, archaeological excavations continue at the site, uncovering ancient ceramics, 16th-century tiles, and other artifacts.
