Volozhynskaya Church of St. Constantine and Helen

Volozhin Church of Saints Constantine and Helena is a monument of 19th-century wooden architecture, located in the very center of Volozhin on Sovetskaya Street. History of Creation

In 1875, a hospice was established at the church, providing shelter for the needy supported by donations from parishioners. In 1883, a parish school was opened in the former hospice building, offering education for children and adults.

During the First and Second World Wars, the church miraculously avoided destruction and remained active. In the 1960s, Soviet authorities dismantled the church to build a kindergarten on its site, but later the church services were restored. The last major renovation of the church took place in 1989. Since then, the building has been in good condition and continues to receive parishioners.

Architecture and Spiritual Life

The Church of Saints Constantine and Helena is a vivid example of wooden architecture with elements of classicism and folk styles. The building has a cross-shaped layout, and the central log structure is topped with a tented roof on an octagonal drum. The two-tiered bell tower is located on the main façade. The lower tier of the bell tower is connected to the main part of the building, forming a harmonious architectural ensemble. The church walls are horizontally clad with wooden planks, and the windows have an arched shape.

The interior of the church is characterized by simplicity and austerity. The central part is covered with an octagonal vault, while the side logs and the altar have flat ceilings. The iconostasis is two-tiered: four icons are located on the first tier, and six on the second. The walls inside the church are painted and partially decorated with murals. The bell tower houses five bells of various sizes, ranging from 25 to 380 kg.

Today, the church is actively used for services, preserving spiritual traditions and bringing together believers and tourists who come here in search of peace and inspiration.
