Rakutevshchina Estate is a museum and memorial complex dedicated to the life and work of Maksim Bahdanovich. It is located in the village of Rakutevshchina in the Maladzyechna District of the Minsk Region and serves as a branch of the Maksim Bahdanovich Literary Museum. The complex includes the restored Lychkouski estate, the surrounding grounds, Maksim’s spring, a monument to the poet, and the so-called Writers’ Park. History of Creation

The history of the estate is inseparably linked to Maksim Bahdanovich’s stay at the Lychkouski estate in the summer of 1911. The poet spent several weeks here, deeply inspired by the life and landscape of the Belarusian countryside. In Rakutevshchina, he created two poetry cycles — “Old Belarus” and “Places,” comprising 17 poems in total, as well as two narrative poems: “Veranika” and “In the Village.” This location became a source of inspiration for works that entered the golden treasury of Belarusian literature. Later, to commemorate the poet’s stay in these parts, a decision was made to establish a museum branch, which has since become one of the region’s key literary centers and an important stop on tourist routes.

Architecture and Exhibits of the Museum Complex

The estate features restored elements of an early 20th-century Belarusian provincial manor. Three main buildings have been reconstructed: the landowner’s house, the tenant’s house, and a granary. The tenant’s house and the granary now house museum exhibitions. These displays include household items, documents, photographs, and materials related to the life and work of Maksim Bahdanovich. The landowner’s house is presented as an interior reconstruction that immerses visitors in the atmosphere of that era. A monument to the poet has been erected on the grounds, along with an improved spring where, according to local lore, Bahdanovich once walked. The Writers’ Park has also been created as a peaceful space for walking, resting, and reflection — just as the poet once did. The museum’s architectural ensemble emphasizes the connection between time, nature, and creativity.
