Trinity Church in Krivichi
The Holy Trinity Church in Krivichi is not just a religious building, but a true stone witness to history, preserving the memory of centuries of Belarusian destiny. Nestled in the quiet of the cozy settlement of Krivichi, between Lake Narach and the Vileyka Reservoir, this shrine impresses with both its architecture and dramatic life story.
History
The first mentions of the church date back to 1642, when Voivode Janusz Kiszka recorded its presence in Krivichi. A few years later, in 1659, it was plundered during wartime. Yet life here endured: in 1740, the church was rebuilt in wood. A new chapter began in 1886–1887, when the current brick structure was erected. The church's fate changed many times — shifting between denominations, serving as a warehouse — but it always revived, thanks to the efforts of the local community.
Architecture
Today, the church is a vivid example of retrospective Russian style. Built from brick atop a solid stone foundation, it comprises four main elements: a bell tower, a narthex, the main hall, and an apse. Its key feature is the three-tiered bell tower, rising into an octagonal structure with arched openings and cross-shaped niches. The grounds are enclosed by a rubble stone fence, and the entrance is marked by an arched gateway, adding a ceremonial flair.
