Frontier post of V.Usov
The Border Outpost named after Hero of the Soviet Union Viktor Usov is a memorial site on the border of Belarus, dedicated to the heroic deed of the defenders of the Motherland during the first hours of the Great Patriotic War. Today, it is not just a military facility but a historical and memorial complex that includes a museum, a monument, and the site of the final battle. This place is part of many patriotic excursions around Belarus and attracts tourists eager to connect with real history.
History
On June 22, 1941, the first day of the war, the outpost of Lieutenant Viktor Usov came under attack. Despite the sudden assault, about 30 border guards divided into three groups under Usov's command held off enemy attacks for more than six hours. The soldiers repelled seven assaults and three artillery barrages, demonstrating incredible resilience and bravery. When ammunition ran out and enemy tanks began to encircle the outpost, Usov held the defense until the very end. His body, with a rifle in his hands, was found 10 years later in a buried trench. In 1965, Viktor Usov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Architecture and Exhibition
Today, at the site of Outpost No. 1, a monument to the border guards stands — a figure of a soldier on a tall pedestal. Inside the former outpost building, a museum has been opened, featuring authentic artifacts found on the battlefield: weapons, ammunition parts, and personal belongings of the soldiers. The exhibition carefully recreates the atmosphere of those tragic and heroic days. The uniqueness of the exhibit lies in its authenticity: every item is directly related to the events of the summer of 1941.
Excursions
Visiting Viktor Usov’s outpost is not only a way to honor the memory of heroes but also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of the war’s beginning. Today, patriotic excursions from Minsk and other cities are organized to this site. It’s a great opportunity to book an excursion with a guided tour of the museum, monument, and the surroundings where battles took place. Guides share the story of a feat that became a symbol of the Belarusian people's unyielding spirit. Excursions around Belarus that include places like this help visitors truly understand the value of peace and the heroism of our ancestors.
