Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Pobeda is an outstanding monument of the retrospective Russian style, built in 1898 from red brick. Located in the Shumilino District of the Vitebsk Region, the church stands out for its architecture and its history, which reflects the dramatic events of the 20th century.

History

The church was built in 1898 with funds from local landowner Shostik, a Lutheran by faith, who wished to build an Orthodox church for the local residents. In 1930, the church was closed by Soviet authorities, and its clergy were repressed. During World War II, the church reopened, but in 1959 it was closed again and converted into a grain storage facility. In 1990, it was returned to the faithful, and restoration began. In 2016, the church was granted third-category status as a historical and cultural heritage site.

Architecture

The church in Pobeda village is a rectangular building with three apses of different sizes. The facades are decorated with arches and white ornamental elements that contrast with the red brick.
