Bujnichi field

Type: Memorial complex Date of Foundation: 1995 year Status: Regional value Republic of Belarus, Mogilev district

The Buinichi Field Memorial Complex is a significant landmark dedicated to the heroic defense of Mogilev during the Great Patriotic War. It is located on the site of fierce battles, where in July 1941, Soviet troops held back the advance of Nazi invaders. The complex covers 22 hectares and serves as an important center for patriotic education. This place is worth visiting during a tour of Belarus to honor the memory of the city's defenders and immerse yourself in history.

History of Creation

The memorial complex was opened on May 9, 1995, in honor of all the defenders of Mogilev, especially the soldiers of the 388th Rifle Regiment of the 172nd Rifle Division and the militia who stood in defense of the city. The project was designed by architects V.V. Chalenko and O.P. Baranovsky. However, the history of Buinichi Field is not limited to the events of 1941. Battles took place here in 1595 during Nalivaiko’s uprising, and in 1812, clashes occurred with Napoleon’s army.

Architecture of the Complex

The central element of the memorial is the chapel, which symbolizes the greatness of the Slavic warrior spirit. It is made of red brick, its dome is covered with copper, and it is crowned with a cross of an ancient Greek design. Inside, there are frescoes and memorial plaques with the names of the heroes who defended Mogilev. A Foucault pendulum is installed in the center, symbolizing the eternal memory of fallen soldiers.

The memorial includes four alleys leading to the chapel. The most well-known among them:

  • Simonov Alley, at the end of which a stone is installed with the facsimile of writer Konstantin Simonov. He wished for his ashes to be scattered here, as Buinichi Field left a deep mark on his life.
  • Alley of Mogilev Defenders, established in 2004, is adorned with plaques bearing the names of the heroes of the 1941 defense.

Also, on the territory of the complex is Lake of Tears, symbolizing the sorrow of mothers who lost their sons during the war. Bridges lead across the lake to a small island with a resting area.
